What is RoninCards?
Ronin Cards is an exciting, new, artistict collaboration designed to produce an innovative new type of greeting card designed to appeal to people between 15 and 35.
Why Greeting Cards?
Well besides being easy to produce, they sell very well. And since greeting card sales don't compete with T-shirt or poster sales, we believe they could be the next great source of revenue for online and comic artists.
But aren't Greeting Cards Boring?
Traditionally they are. Traditional cards are overwhelmingly tame and targeted at as broad an audience as possible. Here at Ronin we have tried to step outside of this boundary and opened up the possibilities of Greeting Cards to the creative minds of our artists. By targeting specific markets which large industries completely pass up we can make cards which are entertaining and also one of a kind.
Cards are big business!
Americans alone purchased 7.4 billion greeting cards in 2006. That translates to 235 cards purchased every second or well over $10 billion in annual sales. And it's not just your Grandma who's buying them. Oh no, 25-35 year olds actually spend the most, and people under 35 account for half of all industry sales.
The average 15-35 year old already spends over $100 a year on greeting cards. And the majority of them after buying a card thought, "Man, this card sucks." Seriously, when was the last time you either received or gave a card and thought, "Wow that's a great card?"
So if we don't like the cards why do we spend the money? According to market research firms half of all purchasers view the cards as a way to share their feelings and connect with others. But for the other half, they're just buying cards because someone expects to receive them. And if you don't think that's a perfectly valid reason, We dare you to skip your wife or girlfriend's next birthday and see where that gets ya. In either case, it appears that the act of giving a card can override the card itself. After all, it's the thought that counts, right?
But what if that changed?
What if people could actually buy cards they liked and felt represented by them? This is where Ronin Cards comes in. As a young, dynamic company, Ronin Cards is re-inventing the way we view Greeting Cards. There is a young, technically advanced generation of people with a huge desire to express themselves on the rise and we will be there to offer them what they want.
